After a brief blogging hiatus brought about by adjustments was Reed and his family get used to the fall schedule and daily routine changes, we are back to more frequent updates on "Reed's Deeds"!
Reed has always had a very adventurous palate and has never met a fruit or vegetable that he does not like. Recently, Reed has added tomatillos and paw-paws to his list of favorites. Tomatillos, or "green 'matos", as Reed calls them, are a relative of the tomato that have a very astringent flavor raw, but cooked they become very sour and delicious. Reed has learned to husk the tomatillos to help his Mommy, too, and these photos are from Friday night's dinner of posole! Reed also got to try paw-paws last week, which are a native fruit, which is somewhat rare (not even at Wegmans!), and have a very sweet caramel, banana custard taste and consistency. Reed's Mommy and Daddy planted a few paw-paw trees years ago here on the farm and have been eagerly anticipating the fruit. Finally this year we got 2 and we all savored to taste after dinner one night last week! Here are a few photos of Reed helping his Mommy husk the tomatillos and of his first few bites of paw-paws.
