Home, Sweet Home

On Sunday evening, Reed suddenly became very congested and started having difficulty nursing.  When we took him to the pediatrician on Monday, she decided to have him admitted to Crouse Hospital; she was concerned about the possibility of respiratory distress and RSV, which can become very severe and have a lot of complications in such a young infant.  Brian and I were relieved to have him monitored so closely by such capable medical staff.  As our pediatrician put it, admitting Reed to the hospital for monitoring allowed us to act just as parents and not try to be doctors and nurses.  Fortunately, Reed tested negative for RSV and Influenza.  Reed did very well and quickly improved.  His heart rate, respiration, oxygen levels, etc. were monitored and he showed no signs of distress.  He had an echo-cardiogram, just to be safe, and the pediatric cardiologist said his heart also functions very well and looks healthy!  After just one night, during which Mommy and Daddy were allowed to stay with him in the hospital room, Reed was declared healthy enough for discharge and we're all now happily home.  Last night at home, Reed did great and we all actually managed to get some sleep!  His appetite has also returned with a vengeance!

On another positive note, we are just so proud of how strong Reed is and how good-tempered he was during his stay.  He rarely fussed and didn't hold any grudges against the nurses who had to do nasal saline washes and take his temperature.  In fact, during our time at the hospital, Reed began to smile even more frequently and deliberately at the doctors and nurses, as well as at Mommy and Daddy.  What a charmer!
